Message from the GW President
Some of the
most beautiful riding is during the fall. The temperatures are cooler, but it is still warm enough to ride without bundling
up; the leaves are starting to change colors showcasing the brilliance of reds, orange, and yellows. It is a beautiful
time of year!
While we are
enjoying the beauty bestowed upon us, it may be hard to think about all the changes that are coming to Great Western.
First, it is time to renew your membership. The 2010 membership form can be downloaded from the forms page. Send
in your membership as soon as possible so that you don't miss out on any of the "Members Only" privileges and information.
You may want to sign up for the 2010 High Point Awards Program while you are at it. Activities held on or after 1 October
2009 will count towards the 2010 awards.
The annual
Membership Meeting will be held on 10 October in Cottonwood, AZ. This coincides with the 3rd annual Red Rock Ride in
Sedona. We will have two important events at this meeting....elections of the 2010/2011 Board of Directors and the Awards
Banquet. We have some great awards to present to our High Point recipients too! The Membership Meeting is also
the only time that members can vote on all motions. If you are unable to attend, you may still make your voice heard
through the use of a GW Proxy; however, the proxy holder must be in attendance. This form is available on the forms
page of the website.
Members may
vote for officers in one of three ways; at the meeting, using an absentee ballot, or on-line. Every adult
and corporate member is entitled to one vote. Check out the ballot and vote for the individuals of your choice.

Brunsdale Family Adventure by Kenley Brunsdale CO Chapter Our annual wilderness adventure this year was the
most ambitious we have ever attempted - 8 day trip into the Beartooth Wilderness of Montana. The Beartooth Range extends
from the northeast corner of Yellowstone. The
trip consisted of a 25 mile ride (in one day) up the West Fork of the Stillwater River – up onto the Lake Plateau.
From a base camp, we then explored a dozen lakes with fabulous fly fishing for four days. Then we crossed the divide
and came down along the Main Fork of the Stillwater River (28 miles) over the course of 2 days. We were virtually alone
for the entire trip. This is the most pristine wilderness we have ever explored. And
of course, our Paso’s did the whole trip over every kind of terrain – including some 6 hour climbs - with no shoes
and only the forage they could graze around the places we camped. No other kind of horse can perform like a Paso in
the mountains – not even a mule.
